Located in Uttar Marg, Sector 4 of Chandigarh, the open hand monument seems

like a flying bird was constructed by Le Corbusier. The structure represents “the

hand to give and take - unity, peace and prosperity of mankind”.The metal structure of the Open

Hand Monument is 85 feet with 46 feet high, metal vanes weigh around 50 tons. The vanes

rotate as the wind passes. The view of this structure looks fabulous from the backside of the Shiwalik Mountains.


Designed by the French architect, Le Corbusier Government Museum and Art Gallery was established on 6 May 1968. Inaugurated by M.S Randhawa, the museum library is a rich repository of books on subjects of art, architecture, and history of art. But after division, there is only 40 percent of objects collection in the museum of India whereas the other 60 percent of objects were retained by Pakistan.
